- RC became ill after a storm on June 19th
- He was shivering, pains in his head, feverish
- By June 24 RC was feeling much better, but the next day he became sick again
- The ague lightened a little on the 26th, but became much worse the next day
- RC lied in bed all day
- Fell asleep and had a terrible dream:
- A man came down from the skies in a dark cloud, surrounded by flames (a devil?)
- Said this: “Because all these things have not made you regret your past actions, I will kill you.” (Nice guy, huh?)
- RC became very frightened
- RC thinks all this is happening because of disobeying his father
- He thinks a lot on how God spared him yet not the other crew members
- RC also talks a lot about his religious thoughts and being on the island with them
- The next day RC is feeling a little better, but still very week. He calls out to God to help him
- He comes to the conclusion, after a walk, that God has bestowed him on this island in this condition
- Before bed RC chews some tobacco and reads some from the Bible
- After reading, RC prays to God to get him off “The Island of Despair”
- In the morning of the 29th, RC feels much more refreshed
- RC prayed to God in thanks for healing him and began reading the bible ever morning and evening
